There are a number of Louisville KY events that visitors and city residents enjoy attending. One of the most famous annual Louisville events is the Kentucky Derby which is held in May.
The Kentucky Derby Festival is held for two weeks before the Derby. Most of the festival events are free. Events during the festival include a fireworks show, sports events, outdoor concerts, a steamboat race, the Pegasus Parade and the Derby Ball.
There are a wide variety of events on the Louisville events calendar. The Kentucky State Fair is held in Louisville every August at the Kentucky Exposition Center. The State Fair has entertainment, exhibits and animal shows.
There are many other events during the summer months. The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival is held in Central Park in Old Louisville. The Louisville Blues-n-Barbeque Festival takes place in July at the Water Tower. Festival attendees can listen to blues while they sample barbecue from different parts of the country. The Fourth of July is celebrated at the Waterfront Independence Festival at Waterfront Park. The Americana World Festival in June has entertainment and food from around the world. Folk music is performed at the Kentucky Music Weekend in July.
A number of events are held during the fall. The Taste of Louisville in September offers samples from area restaurants. The World’s Largest Halloween Party is held at the Louisville Zoo during October. Trick and treating and characters in costume are part of this event. Another October event is the St. James Court Art Show. This takes place among Victorian homes in Old Louisville. Works of over 750 North American artists are shown. The Riverside Heritage Festival is also held in October. This family event has musical entertainment and craft demonstrations.
A number of holiday concerts are held in Louisville during December. The Winter Wonderland Parade starts off the holiday season in Louisville with music and fireworks.
